Note: APA operates on a 37.5-hour work week with one-hour lunch breaks each day. APA sets salaries based on several considerations, including years of relevant experience, level of education, and previous staff and/or governance experience at APA.

The Senior Project Manager, Evidence-Based Practice and Health Equity serves as independent project manager to support ongoing activities of evidence-based practice in psychology and health equity, including development of resources such as clinical practice guidelines, policy statements, patient materials, and other products. This position will manage progress of multiple panels/committees to include content and logistics.

Education and Experience:



  • Master's degree in psychology or closely related field preferred with demonstrated proficiency in research related writing.
  • 8 years progressively responsible experience in project management or in a research setting. Experience acquired during or as part of educational experiences will be considered.
  • Incumbent should have some background in the review and understanding of clinical research.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and build strategic relationships with cross-functional teams and project management counterparts.


Computer Skills Required:

Thorough knowledge of:



  • A variety of software applications (Microsoft Office suite including Microsoft Teams, statistics programs such as SPSS),
  • Online survey platforms (such as Alchemer and Microsoft Forms),
  • Virtual meetings on Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Be comfortable and competent with technology.
  • Should be comfortable searching research literature databases (PsycNET, PubMed, Cochrane, Google Scholar).


Responsibilities:

Provides independent project management for ongoing development of evidence-based practice in psychology and health equity resources such as clinical practice guidelines, policy statements, patient materials, and other products. Activities include:



  1. Managing the progress of multiple development panels/committees from formation to completion of work products. This will include tracking progress, preparation of substantive background materials and drafting reports, facilitating videoconference calls, and extended virtual or in-person meetings.
  2. Conducting relevant research including both self-directed and requested literature searches and use of multiple information databases (PsycNET, PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane).
  3. Work with content experts to develop materials for dissemination and implementation of resulting evidence-based and health equity products.
  4. Evaluate and facilitate dissemination and implementation efforts of evidence-based practice in psychology and health equity with guidance of supervisor and relevant expert committees.
  5. Will contribute to preparation of substantive background materials, reports, and recommendations for presentation at APA governance meetings and to senior staff
  6. Contract management, including creating draft contracts for consultants working on components of evidence-based and health equity products and dissemination and tracking those contracts through the review and approval process within APA and ensuring appropriate payment to consultants in line with contracted agreements.
  7. Serve as a resource to members and stakeholders of APA related to APA's evidence-based practice in psychology and health equity products.
  8. Coordinate with senior staff and external APA members with topic expertise the review and submission of public comment opportunities from federal agencies and outside organizations' draft systematic reviews, guidelines, or other products.


This requires:



  • Recognition as an expert in this area at APA.
  • Specialized depth and breadth of evidence-based practice knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret internal and external relevant issues and recommend solutions/best practices.
  • Ability to solve complex problems relevant to evidence-based practice and take a broad perspective to identify solutions.
  • Experience or strong interest in health equity.
  • Ability to work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.


Other Duties as Assigned: May be asked to work closely with staff from other organizations to further evidence-based practice efforts. May also work closely with members of the Psychology Team to develop policy, content, and resources related to evidence-based practice outside of health care. Some weekend and evening work will be expected. Other duties to be determined by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility:

May have functional supervision of interns.
