Summary of Job Duties:The Physician Assistant (PA) in the Department of Otolaryngology provides high-quality, family-centered care to pediatric patients with ear, nose, and throat conditions at Arkansas Children's Northwest (ACNW). The PA will collaborate with attending otolaryngologists, residents, nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary team members to deliver comprehensive clinical services, including outpatient clinic care, inpatient consultations, and perioperative management.

This position plays a vital role in supporting the department's mission of providing exceptional patient care, advancing education, and fostering innovation in pediatric otolaryngology. Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.

  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

  • Current or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Arkansas.

  • Current BLS and PALS certification (or ability to obtain prior to start).

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in pediatric otolaryngology, pediatrics, or surgical specialty.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Care

  • Conduct independent and collaborative patient evaluations, including detailed history and physical examinations. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic ENT conditions in pediatric patients under the supervision of attending physicians. Provide pre-operative and post-operative evaluations and follow-up care. Assist in surgical procedures as appropriate, including operative preparation and postoperative management. Perform and assist with in-office procedures (e.g., ear cleaning, foreign body removal, flexible laryngoscopy, nasal endoscopy). Respond to inpatient and emergency department consultations as assigned. Order and interpret diagnostic tests (laboratory, imaging, audiology) and implement appropriate treatment plans. Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with ENT physicians, nurses, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and ancillary staff to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care. Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards. Adhere to departmental, hospital, and university policies, including infection control, patient privacy (HIPAA), and safety protocols.

Education & Professional Development

  • Participate in teaching activities for medical students, residents, and other learners as appropriate. Engage in continuing medical education and maintain certification as required. Contribute to departmental research, quality improvement, or clinical innovation projects when appropriate.
