Job Description

The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for the administration of all benefit programs, completing payroll activities and managing the HRIS system. The individual in this position understands and stays current with payroll/HRIS/time & attendance systems as well as benefit trends, pay policies, best practices, regulatory changes, and maintains program compliance.

Essential Functions



  • Responsible for day-to-day administration of all benefit and retirement plans for all current and new employees
  • Responsible for year-end payroll administration, including tax document preparation and reconciliation
  • Support the annual open enrollment process, including communication delivery, system testing, employee support, election monitoring, and enrollment audits
  • Primary resource for leave administration
  • Work with finance to prepare, reconcile, and submit for payment, all monthly benefit and retirement plan invoices
  • Partner with third-party auditors and administrators, to perform annual carrier audits, compliance testing, and required reporting and filings, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and ACA
  • Ensure employees are paid in a timely manner in accordance with company, state and federal payroll standards
  • Maintain and update the HR information system on a daily basis to reflect new hires, employee status changes, including but not limited to, pay rate changes, promotions, department transfers, title changes, and personal information changes
  • Ensure ongoing data integrity of HR Systems through various HR, benefits, payroll and compliance audits through the reporting and monitoring of data input/output to track data entry errors, process adherence, and make recommendations for process improvements
  • Serve as a resource for employees by answering questions related to payroll and benefits; provide timely and consistent follow-up
  • Create and submit routine and ad hoc reports in accordance with internal policies, sustainability metrics, and LICS compliance
  • Manage pre-employment and onboarding of all new employees, both onsite and remote
  • Manage the vendor relations accordingly
  • Respond to unemployment claims and verify employment information as requested
  • Assist with recruiting tasks as needed, such as interview coordination
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned


Basic Qualifications



  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 2 years benefits administration experience
  • 2 years payroll processing experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in HRIS management
  • Ability to maintain confidential, sensitive, and proprietary information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and a variety of office equipment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible, reliable, team player, and attention to detail
  • Effective customer service acumen
  • Willingness to effect change by looking outside of the box for creative solutions, new processes, and rebalancing of priorities
  • Ability to work independently and effectively while multitasking in a team environment with limited resources
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and with external customers
