Job Title: CNC Lathe Programmer / Set-Up / Operator
Shift: 8-10 hour shifts / Flexibility with days/start times
Reports to:
Salary : $32.00 - $40.00/hour
Position Overview:
We're seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer / Set-Up / Operator to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes to produce high-precision components. This is a hands-on role that requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and an appreciation for craftsmanship in a fast-paced tool and die setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Programming:
  • Develop and modify CNC lathe programs using G-code and CAD/CAM software (Mastercam preferred)
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and CAD files to plan machining operations
  • Optimize programs for efficiency, accuracy, and tooling life
  • Troubleshoot and adjust programs as needed to achieve precision and quality standards
Set-Up:
  • Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work holding devices
  • Align and secure raw materials for machining
  • Calibrate machines and verify offsets to ensure accurate part production
  • Conduct trial runs and adjust parameters to meet specifications
  • Maintain tooling inventory and machine readiness
Operation:
  • Operate CNC lathes to produce parts according to specifications
  • Monitor machines during production for quality, efficiency, and safety
  • Measure and inspect parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Collaborate with engineers, toolmakers, and team members to support production and prototype projects
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of proven experience in CNC lathe programming, setup, and operation (tool & die or mold shop preferred)
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam preferred)
  • Understanding of G-code programming
  • Experience with CNC controls (Fanuc or similar)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Team-oriented attitude with a focus on quality and continuous improvement
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move about the shop floor for extended periods of time (up to 8-10 hours per shift)
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver materials up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Frequent use of hands, fingers, and arms to handle tools, operate machines, and measure parts
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to set up equipment and inspect work
  • Good vision and hand-eye coordination required for precision machining and measurement tasks
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes
  • Able to use basic tools including micrometers, indicators, calipers and equipment to set up and run a lathe
Work Environment:
  • Work performed primarily in a tool and die manufacturing shop environment
  • Exposure to moderate noise, vibration, and metalworking machinery typical of a precision machining facility
  • Temperature-controlled, clean, and well-organized workspace focused on safety and quality
  • Standard full-time hours with occasional overtime based on project demand
  • Collaborative setting where communication and teamwork are key to success
