Position Overview

The OCHIN Billing Services (OBS) Supervisor, Coding Operations oversees the coding services to one of more OCHIN Billing Services member clinics and/or OCHIN consortium member clinics by working with the Revenue Cycle Project Manager to develop strategic plans to ensure operational efficiency and by working with cross-functional departments to maximize collection potential.

The Supervisor, Coding Services will recognize potential high-risk trends and develop techniques to optimize revenue, improve coding accuracy, and streamline the revenue cycle.

Essential Duties

  • Provide efficient and effective coding support services and oversight on behalf of our member clients to maximize their reimbursement and support OCHIN revenue cycle performance indicators for financial health.
  • Direct and supervise a team of coding specialists and work with them to provide superior revenue cycle management to OBS clients.
  • Ensures the activities of the coding operations are conducted in a manner that is consistent with overall department protocol and follow federal, state and payer regulations, and meets all deadlines including End of Month close processes.
  • Obtains and increases revenue by resolving claim and technical issues; maintaining customer relations; resolving problems.
  • Interface with customers and establish relationships that promote the timely and efficient resolution of transactions and other issues.
  • Oversee the reimbursement needs of the member through review and recommendation and/or correct assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes which are critical to third party reimbursement.
  • Audit a set number of encounters per month reviewed/coded by Coding Specialist(s).
  • Collaboratively review set number of encounters reviewed/coded by Senior Coding Specialist(s).
  • Create and develop internal and external training in partnership with internal training team.
  • Lead Coding Department Meetings and provide high level coding updates.
  • Create and drive process for keeping Coding Services team abreast of coding changes.
  • Primarily responsible for OCHIN Consortium and Billing Services member training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of clinical coding experience for complex or multi-specialties with at least 3 - 5 years experience in a leadership role.
  • High school diploma, GED, or a combination of relevant experience and some higher education is required; Bachelor's or Associate degree in business or relevant area of study preferred.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player with significant experience in physician office or medical practice revenue cycle management including coding, charge capture, time of service collection, insurance eligibility and benefits verification, claims, submission and management and accounts receivable management, including familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS Coding Systems as well as claim forms such as CMS-1500 and UB-04
  • High level of research and root cause analysis and problem-solving capabilities, superior attention to detail.
  • Proven experience creating, analyzing, and explaining complex reports.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and software such as Microsoft Office, specifically high aptitude in Microsoft Excel, proficiency in Power Point, and knowledge of VISIO. Proven ability to quickly master new applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, and listening, as well as demonstrated business writing skills, are required.
  • Prior experience using Epic practice management system required.
  • Previous FQHC or RHC experience required.
  • Required certifications include:
  • Medical coding from AAPC (CPC Certificate) or AHIMA (CCS Certificate
  • Current certification from ADCA (CDC certificate)
  • Dual language skills, specifically in Spanish is a plus.

Base Pay Overview

The typical offer range for this role is minimum to midpoint, with the midpoint representing the average pay in a national market scope for this position. Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will consider a wide range of factors directly relevant to this position, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, responsibility, and experience, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
