MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidates must be either an MPH or an MS Epidemiology student at SUNY Albany's College of Integrated Health Sciences; AND must have completed at least 24 credits of coursework toward their degree including at least four of the core courses; AND must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better AND are unable to participate in an internship if on academic probation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of SAS software

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) represent a major public-health concern in New York State (NYS), with more than 2,000 deaths and over 80,000 emergency department (ED) visits each year. Additionally, nearly 157 incidents of TBI occur daily in NYS, with the greatest risk of sustaining a TBI among young children, young adults, and the elderly populations.

The Hourly Intern II will assist in managing and analyzing ED and hospitalization surveillance data to generate updated statistics for public reporting. They will gain hands-on experience working with large datasets using SAS and other software, strengthening their data management and analysis skills. Specific tasks will include cleaning and preparing datasets, calculating key TBI statistics, producing summary tables and figures, and ensuring the accuracy of results for inclusion on Bureau of Occupational Health and Injury Prevention's website.

DETAILS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part time.
