The Department of Neurobiology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University invites applications for a PhD-level Administrative Director to help advance the department's research and teaching mission. This is a senior leadership role that combines scientific knowledge with administrative vision. The Director will work in close partnership with the Chair of the Department of Neurobiology and its faculty to coordinate the department's research and teaching operations, ensuring an environment that supports excellence in discovery and education. Drawing on their own research experience, the Administrative Director will aid in all aspects of departmental operations, including the management and planning of research facilities and laboratory spaces, oversight of the department's Master's degree program, recruitment and retention of faculty, and supervision of administrative office staff. This is a full-time position with a compensation range of $88,000 - $92,000 per year. The salary offered will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Applicants must have a PhD in neurobiology, neuroscience, or a related scientific field, along with at least one year of relevant professional experience. Postdoctoral experience of one year or more is preferred. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of laboratory operations, scientific equipment, and laboratory facilities, as well as a broad familiarity with current research areas and emerging directions in neurobiology. They will possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and excel at working collaboratively across teams and disciplines. Experience with grant writing, research administration, and project management is highly desirable.
