| Overview74th St. Generating Station is seeking to hire General Utility Workers (GUW) to perform mechanical and electrical maintenance work on electric and steam generation equipment and components in a power plant environment. Selected candidates for this posting will be assigned to the Maintenance Department of 74th St. Station in Manhattan. ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities 
 Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks across facility equipment and systems.Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools for routine and emergency repairs.Carry out standard maintenance functions, including inspections, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.Apply and follow safe work practices in all tasks, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, procedures and policies.Work assigned shifts that may include rotating schedules, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to meet the operational needs of the department.Obtain a NYS/NYC Asbestos Handlers License within one year of placement in the department.Uses various tools, field power tools, and precision equipment.Writes accurate and concise reports.Read and interpret schematic drawings and engineering prints.Maintain a working knowledge of confined space entry, oxy-acetylene torch cutting, rigging, reading mechanical drawings, industrial safety, and basic electricity.Performs asbestos abatements and maintenance associated with powerplant equipment based on operational needs.Occasionally, operates a Con Edison vehicle.Successfully advances through career path training.
