The Director Privacy Operations plans and directs VCU Health System's strategic goals for compliance with federal (OCR, CMS, etc.) and state requirements, and VCUHS policies across the clinical enterprise.
The Director Privacy Operations administers the daily operations of the privacy program to include policy maintenance and development; monitoring of privacy activities (investigations, risk assessments, privacy reporting, and training); and management of privacy incidents. Additionally, this position is responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the overall privacy program. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) or equivalent. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) or equivalent. Experience REQUIRED: Five (5) years of experience in healthcare privacy with three (3) years of progressive leadership/management experience. Experience PREFERRED Seven (7) years of experience in healthcare privacy with previous experience in an academic health care setting. Five (5) years of progressive leadership/management experience. Education/training REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or closely related field from and accredited program. Education/training PREFERRED: Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Policy, Law or closely related field from an accredited program. Independent action(s) required: Collaborates with the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer to align departmental goals with strategy initiatives (i.e. Vision by Design) and monitors progress. Handles all day to day team operations independently. Seeks advice and guidance from Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer on an as needed situational basis, and when there is a major impact on activity. Actions taken without prior approval include daily operational functions and leadership of staff. Assists Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer with developing the operational structure of the department. Provides independent and objective privacy program guidance to VCUHS clinical enterprise entities (i.e. MCVH, MCVP, CMH and CHoR Brook Road). With guidance from Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, advice and guidance are sought for termination of team members, handling team member grievances, review of annual department goals and budget, approval of department guidelines and procedures and review of staff annual performance evaluations. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Has full authority and accountability for actions and decisions within the scope of the position description and Health System policies and procedures. Supervises, mentors, and serves as role model for assigned staff. Interviews and hires qualified staff and conducts annual performance evaluations. Handles staff disciplinary actions independently. Manages department assigned goals and budget for areas of responsibility.
