The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing Services (DONS) with planning, implementing, and carrying out the total program of nursing services at Luther Manor. In partnership with the DONS, the ADON is responsible for the leadership and direction of the nursing department. The ADON is accountable for the implementation and follow-through of policies, procedures, and State and Federal regulations. The ADON is a resource to the nursing staff of all areas of Luther Manor.



  • Encourages and models team approach to accomplish the Luther Manor Mission of providing excellent care and services to customers.
  • Follows State and Federal regulations as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Nursing Department Policy and Procedure Manuals, Human Resources Manual and Resident Bill of Rights, and adheres to safety rules.
  • Maintains current and up-to-date knowledge in the field of rehabilitation & geriatric nursing
  • Functions as DON in his/her absence.
  • Assists DON with interviewing/selecting potential nursing staff (Nurses and Nurse Managers).
  • Works with Human Resources in the hiring process of the Nursing Department Staff
  • Facilitates Nurse Manager (NM) Meetings.
  • Actively participates in Nursing Department committees and in facility PIP teams as goals and needs require.
  • Oversees scheduling of the nursing staff, keeping within budget.
  • Audits reports, records, and charts for regulatory compliance, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Reviews resident incident/investigation reports and medication error reports in the absence of the DON.
  • Assists with investigations related to Nursing Department personnel in conjunction with Social Services and Human Resources (i.e., resident complaints, staff complaints).
  • Oversees Nursing Department in implementing, executing, & maintaining computer technology
  • Collaborates with the Therapy Department to assist in both problem-solving and communication of resident care and services.
  • Oversees guidance and disciplinary action with nursing staff as issues arise.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Wisconsin licensed Registered Nurse.
  • CPR/BLS certified.
  • Knowledge and experience in supervision, minimum of 3 years experience.
  • Knowledge of current professional theory and practice, minimum of 3 years of experience in long term care.
  • Good communication, organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for email, internet, data base management, word processing, spreadsheets, form development, electronic health record documentation/auditing.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, maturity and emotional stability in diplomatically dealing with physicians, residents, families, volunteers, visitors, staff and vendors.
  • Abilty to read, write, speak and understand the English Language.
  • The mobility to spend the majority of work shift standing or moving about the facility.
