Position Overview

The Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring a professional and positive experience during specimen collection. This role is responsible for drawing high-quality blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and maintaining adherence to all established safety and procedural protocols. The PSR I builds trust and confidence with patients by clearly explaining procedures, performing phlebotomy with skill and care, and maintaining strict confidentiality and accuracy of patient information. Under the direction of the area supervisor, the PSR I performs daily activities accurately and efficiently, upholding organizational standards of service, professionalism, and process excellence.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection and processing duties, including both clinical and forensic collections, in accordance with established procedures and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and documentation for all collections and related tasks
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and professional work environment at all times
  • Provide excellent customer service, fostering trust and comfort for patients throughout the collection process
  • Demonstrate reliability and accuracy in all work, consistently meeting performance and timeliness expectations
  • Support team members and leadership through effective communication and adherence to standard operating procedures
  • Promote a positive image of the organization to patients, clients, colleagues, and the general public


Job Requirements

  • Ability to deliver high-quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong phlebotomy skills, including experience with pediatric and geriatric patients
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient computer and data entry skills
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, and overtime as needed


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical training (such as medical assistant or paramedic training) preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (required in California, Nevada, and Washington)


Work Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months of related experience required
  • At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience preferred
  • Prior experience in customer service within a retail or service environment preferred
  • Demonstrated keyboarding and data entry proficiency required
