As part of HVAC Cooling, SPX Cooling Technologies is a leader in high quality industrial HVAC equipment used to cool large facilities like hospitals, data centers, and power plants. How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As Designer I, you'll play a key role in creating accurate drawings and models that bring our cooling tower projects to life. Working closely with experienced designers and engineers, you will support the design process from initial sales orders through fabrication and field construction. This role is ideal for detail-oriented individuals who want to grow their technical design expertise while contributing to high-impact projects.

A successful incumbent will work efficiently and accurately, and collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, and other departments. Responsible for Americas locations.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Design and Documentation
  • Create and revise drawings, bills of material, and product model files to meet project and product specifications.
  • Maintain product configurators and follow document control procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare and execute engineering change orders, documenting revisions as required.
  1. Project and Workflow Management
  • Plan and organize personal work to align with project requirements, contributing to timelines and project plans as needed.
  • Review documentation (parts lists, drawings) to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Ensure outputs support time sales order processing, product development, and redesign activities.
  1. Cross-Functional Support
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing plants, and field construction teams by clarifying documentation and instructions.
  • Provide training and respond to technical questions to resolve uncertainties.
  • Support Americas-based projects and stakeholders with accurate and timely information.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • 1+ years of experience.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of HVAC and/or cooling towers.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD tools relevant to assigned products; certain roles may require strong proficiency in 3D modeling.
  • Programming and/or Visual Basic knowledge helpful.
  • Basic proficiency in SAP or other ERP system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in drafting or engineering technology, or equivalent experience.

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
  • Lifting 10-30 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
