THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is currently looking to hire an Engineering Technician to join their team. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The role of a bridge engineer encompasses a range of critical responsibilities aimed at ensuring the integrity and safety of bridge structures. This includes conducting bridge design and structural analysis in alignment with the standards set forth by PennDOT and the specifications outlined by AASHTO. Additionally, the engineer is tasked with assisting in both routine and special bridge inspections, meticulously documenting findings to maintain accurate records. Developing comprehensive repair and rehabilitation plans, along with cost estimates, is also a key function of this position. Collaboration is essential, as the engineer must work closely with various engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to guarantee adherence to safety and design standards. Proficiency in bridge management systems and software tools is necessary for effective data collection, reporting, and project tracking. Furthermore, the preparation of technical reports, design drawings, and documentation is crucial for internal reviews and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Additionally, involvement in office-based survey analysis and map preparation is expected, along with travel to diverse project sites as assigned, providing a comprehensive learning experience in the field of surveying.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis during winter season. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 6 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:
  • This particular position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
