Tesla's Cell Manufacturing Engineering Team
is looking for a highly motivated Engineering Technician with tool and equipment installation and commissioning background to lead and support cell and module inspection, lead contractors in installation of engineering equipment, assist equipment commissioning, problem solving and root cause analysis.
What You'll Do
- Assist engineers in the installation and commissioning of battery cell manufacturing equipment
- Support all aspects of cell manufacturing, provide root cause analysis
- Work closely with manufacturing and suppliers to drive rapid improvement of observed inline and field issues, establish processes and procedures that will ensure consistently high quality
- Support FMEA activities to ensure design and manufacturing issues are identified and risks mitigated and take preventative action
- Interpret engineering drawings such as PFD's, P&ID's, Isometric Drawings, and electrical one-line drawings to effectively lead contractor workforce in equipment installations
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering to determine equipment specifications and tolerances
- Participate in continuous improvement activities, with manufacturing and external suppliers and stakeholders
What You'll Bring
- 4+ years of detailed hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing equipment, procedures and practices of root cause analysis and typical issues and resolution pathways and desire to work in equipment installation for high volume battery cell manufacturing lines
- Previous experience as a millwright/pipefitter/maintenance technician preferred
- Metal working and other general fabrication skills including Knowledge of hand and power tools, welding procedures, pneumatic equipment included Machine shop items: Band saws, grinders, mill and lathe operation a plus
- Knowledge of electrical hazards. Including precautionary measures around High & Low Voltage systems, equipment and rotating equipment/machinery
- Knowledge plumbing and water-cooling systems
- Basic wiring knowledge, ability to connect sensors, power supplies, and Data Acquisition to test platforms and the ability to use basic electrical tools: Digital Multi-meter, Meg-Ohm tester, Thermal couple Meters during troubleshooting
- Command of English language, both written and verbal
Essential Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 50 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
