Position Summary:

The Department of Radiation Oncology at NYU Langone Health is seeking a clinical medical physicist to join our team in Staten Island. This is an excellent opportunity for a physicist to practice in a collaborative, patient-centered environment with meaningful local clinical responsibility while being part of a large, growing, multisite academic radiation oncology program recognized for clinical excellence, innovation, and education. The physicist in this role will primarily support the clinical operations of our Staten Island practice and play an integral part in the safe, precise, and effective delivery of radiation therapy. Working closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists, the successful candidate's contributions will include, but not be limited to, quality assurance, chart review, equipment oversight, and the continued advancement of high-quality clinical care. The Staten Island practice offers the advantage of a close-knit clinical environment with strong institutional support and integration within a broader department that values close collaboration across campuses and shared standards of excellence across the health system.
This position offers the opportunity to combine meaningful local clinical responsibility with the resources and collegiality of a broader department spanning Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Long Island. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative physics and radiation oncology team and will have opportunities to engage with colleagues across sites in clinical problem-solving, program development, and departmental initiatives. The department also includes a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program, providing opportunities for teaching and mentorship.
Our department has an innovation focused and experienced team consisting of 26 faculty and staff physicists, 26 radiation oncology physicians, and 21 dosimetrists. The Staten Island facility has 1 TrueBeam linac and 1 CT simulator, and the wider system offers access to a diverse and advanced technology platform consisting of a total of 7 TrueBeam linacs, 1 Ethos linac, 1 Elekta MR linac, 1 GammaKnife, 1 Radixact, 3 CyberKnifes, 3 Bravos HDR afterloaders, 4 CT-simulators, 1 PET/CT-Simulator, and 1 MR simulator. Coordination with, coverage for, and travel to our practices in Brooklyn and Manhattan will be necessary on occasion.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day clinical physics activities, including treatment planning, simulation, dosimetry, and linear accelerator operations.
  • Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists to design and evaluate complex treatment plans (e.g., 3D/4D planning, IMRT, SBRT).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Physics Quality Assurance standards and Radiation Safety regulations.
  • Conduct weekly patient chart reviews, routine QA, and equipment quality control testing.
  • Coordinate maintenance, calibration, and repair of radiation therapy equipment.
  • Provide education through in-service training, lectures, and mentorship of students and staff.
  • Participate in departmental teaching associated with the residency program.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development through continuing education, professional society involvement, and review of current literature.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's of Science degree in physics or engineering and completion of a training/residency program or a Master's Degree in an accredited Medical Physics program. Required license NYS Med Physicist License (Grace period - NA) or NYS Limited Med Physicist Permit (Grace period - NA)
Well developed communication and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certification (ABR);

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $233,000-$280,000 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
