Job Summary

Applies paint, lacquer or other coating onto a variety of surfaces and materials, including walls, woodwork, fixtures, metal, Woodstock or fabricated items using a brush or spray gun. Uses hand scraper, wire brush, sandpaper or turpentine to clean surfaces and prepare for painting or retouching. Scrapes old paint from surfaces and places putty or filler in nail holes and cracks. Mixes colors, oils, thinners and other paint ingredients to obtain proper color or consistency.



Major Job Responsibilities

    Paints and patches surfaces in public areas such as sheetrock or plaster walls, wood and metal doors, and painted hand rails
  • Creates color boards of custom colors for internal clients
  • Repairs and paints museum galleries for exhibitions
  • Maintains an accurate record of daily paint usage for documenting VOC emissions for SCAQMD
  • Makes recommendations regarding painting and retouching of surfaces and objects throughout the Getty
  • Determines specifications for small projects and may monitor the work of other staff or contractors Assumes responsibility for successful project completion, including cleaning and materials preparation


Qualifications

  • High School/GED
  • 3 to 5 years experience in commercial painting of large scale surfaces
  • California drivers license with less than three DMV points


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled at patching surfaces and matching colors
  • Skilled at painting large surface areas with a roller to avoid streaking
  • Skilled at color mixing
  • Skilled at applying water based lacquers and varnishes
  • Skilled with working with two part epoxy paints
  • Skilled at applying paint with all forms of applications, including brushes, rollers, and sprayers
  • Basic computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software email applications and work order tracking systems preferred
