Air Quality Engineer

Purpose of the Role

The Air Quality Engineer will play a critical role in supporting permitting, compliance, and regulatory strategies for large-scale energy and infrastructure projects in the Gulf Coast region. This position provides an opportunity to apply engineering expertise to ensure operational compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.

The role is ideal for an early-career professional eager to grow technical capabilities in air quality management and environmental consulting while contributing to projects that shape the energy sector.

This full-time position is based in Houston TX, working a hybrid schedule 3 days per week at the Worley office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support regulatory compliance for Gulf Coast facilities, including monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting under federal (EPA) and state programs.
  • Prepare and maintain air permit applications and amendments (e.g., PSD/NSR, Title V) aligned with facility design and operational changes.
  • Conduct and validate air emissions calculations for various sources (turbines, flares, compressors, storage tanks, marine and rail loading operations) using AP-42 factors, process simulations, and client data.
  • Review engineering design modifications to evaluate impacts on permitting applicability and compliance obligations.
  • Participate in compliance audits, agency inspections, and internal reporting to maintain regulatory and operational integrity.
  • Monitor, interpret, and communicate regulatory updates relevant to LNG and petrochemical operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to ensure timely submittal of reports and integration of permit requirements into facility practices.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies to support compliance demonstrations, permit approvals, and resolution of technical issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, or a related discipline).
  • Minimum 2+ years of professional experience in air quality permitting, compliance, or environmental engineering, preferably with LNG, petrochemical, or midstream projects.
  • Solid understanding of federal and state air quality regulations, including EPA, TCEQ, LDEQ, GHG reporting, and NSPS OOOOa/OOOOb.
  • Familiarity with emissions sources common to LNG and petrochemical facilities (e.g., turbines, flares, tanks, compressors, marine/rail loading) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with emissions calculations, dispersion modeling, and regulatory reporting tools desirable.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to prepare clear, accurate reports and regulatory documentation.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to interpret and apply permit conditions to real-world operations.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
