Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

We Require

  • Two years of library experience

  • Associate's degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or a related field

  • A combination of related post-secondary education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements on a year-by-year basis

We Also Value

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or closely related field

  • Advanced library/public library experience with library-related automation systems or databases; eReaders and other digital devices; or creating and implementing programs for youth, teens, and adults

  • Paraprofessional library skills acquired through a specialized educational training program

Job Contributions

  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers using the Library's District Great Expectations customer service model

  • Assists with preparing, implementing, and presenting public programs.

    Assists with providing direct service to customers through basic reference and reader's advisory services

  • Assists with conducting school visits, group tours, and community outreach.

  • Assists patrons in the use of computer services, including the online catalog, the Internet, and various databases

  • Creates reading logs, brochures, signage, posters, bulletin boards, letters, bookmarks, bibliographies, games, promotional displays, and pamphlets

  • Performs routine opening/closing procedures

  • Responds to customer concerns

  • Assists with collection developmen,t including weeding, shifting, shelf-reading, etc., as needed

Working Conditions

  • Position works in a library environment and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Scheduling is varied, continually dependent on branch needs, and often requires evening and weekend availability

  • Ability to push, stoop, kneel, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet
