Pay Range

$23.25 - $37.75 hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

Applicants who hold an emission certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) will be placed within the specified range. Those who do not hold this certification by the time of hire will be subject to a 5% reduction in the salary offer until this license is obtained.

We Require

  • Two years of general automotive experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • A combination of post-secondary education in Automotive Technology or a closely related field, or job-related experience, may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

  • Must possess or can obtain the necessary emission certification license through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) within 90 days of hire to perform emissions testing and compliance activities; obtaining this certification is a condition of employment

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

Job Contributions

  • Perform general mechanical repairs and engine diagnostics on light-duty vehicles and equipment, including routine maintenance, basic troubleshooting, test procedures, and cost/time estimates, within an industrial shop environment
  • Conduct advanced diagnostics and repairs on complex systems in light-duty vehicles, including emergency response vehicles. This includes electrical/electronic, braking, climate control, drive train, suspension, and body components by identifying faults and performing targeted system-level repairs, as well as supporting upfitting needs specific to emergency response operations.
  • Conduct road tests on vehicles to ensure the completion of the repair
  • Maintain service records and repair documentation, including work orders, labor estimates, expenditures, and project status, for input into the fleet tracking system
  • Promote and maintain a safe and compliant work environment by upholding safety standards, maintaining shop cleanliness, and proactively identifying and reporting hazards to leadership
  • Consult with the supervisor on vehicular problems and performance
  • Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment
  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 20 - 25 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware

  • All specialized equipment, software, and hardware will be provided by Equipment Services. The technician will provide personal mechanic tools

Protective Equipment Required

  • All PPE will be provided by Equipment Services
