Transfer Eligibility Criteria


  • Employed in current position at least 1 year (12 months).
  • Written confirmation of acceptable performance record/evaluation signed by the employee's supervisor and completed no more than 18 months prior to date of transfer application.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of performance including but not limited to absence of corrective action and/or resolution of previous corrective action.
  • Successfully pass any special screening processes required for the position of interest, including but not limited to background investigations, drug screens, and skills assessments.
  • A transferred employee may be subject to additional background screening as required by the position.

SUMMARY

Metallurgical Lab Tech Assistant / Support.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.




  • Performs elemental analysis of metal samples using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to verify alloy composition and detect impurities.
  • Operates LECO combustion analyzers (e.g., carbon/sulfur, nitrogen/oxygen/hydrogen analyzers) to determine gas content and ensure compliance with material specifications.
  • Prepares, calibrates, and maintains XRF and LECO instruments, ensuring accuracy through the use of certified reference materials and control samples.
  • Interprets analytical results, compares data against customer and internal specifications, and communicates findings to Engineering and Quality teams.
  • Troubleshoots instrument issues, documents maintenance activities, and coordinates service when needed to minimize downtime.
  • Ensures safe laboratory practices and compliance with internal quality systems (e.g., ISO/AS standards) during all analysis activities.
  • Provides support to sister facilities through occasional travel for training, technical assistance, and lab process alignment.
  • Performs coatings analysis (e.g., thermal spray, braze, overlay coatings) to evaluate microstructure, thickness, and adhesion properties.
  • Supports failure investigations and coating qualification testing by preparing crosssections and performing metallographic and SEM evaluations.



Additional Responsibilities: Level IV


  • Formulates and maintains objectives complimentary to corporate policies and goals.
  • Prepares casting samples and mounts.
  • Evaluates casting samples by performing the following tasks:



o Performs metallographic metal preparation.


o Utilizes microscope to analyze casting samples.

  • Evaluates weld qualification coupons.
  • Evaluates results to customer specs.
  • Generates reports based on evaluations.
  • Communicates results to Engineering and Quality Departments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education: High School Grad. Additional college-level training in material science, metallurgy, physics or chemistry helpful but not necessary. Prior experience in a metallurgical lab or position requiring similar skills or responsibilities would be a plus.



LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.



REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.



COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs.
