Position Summary:

The Pathology Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing pathology and laboratory reports from dictated material, ensuring medical terminology and diagnostic information are documented with precision and confidentiality. This role supports pathologists and laboratory staff by producing timely, accurate, and well-formatted medical reports essential for patient care and record-keeping.

Key Results Areas (KRAs):

  • Transcribe dictations from pathologists into accurate, formatted pathology reports.
  • Review, proofread, and edit transcribed documents for grammar, clarity, and accuracy.
  • Ensure correct use of medical and pathology terminology.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and institutional policies.
  • Verify patient identifiers, case numbers, and report content for accuracy.
  • Communicate with pathologists or laboratory staff to clarify inconsistencies or dictation errors.
  • Prioritize and manage workload to meet turnaround time requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining electronic medical records and proper filing of reports.

  • Filing slides
  • Other duties as needed

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • May involve extended periods of sitting, typing, and reviewing reports.
