Hill International is seeking a Safety Inspector in Livermore, California


  • Identify construction health, safety, and environmental issues and reporting concerns to SDRs and ES&H Coordinator for Facilities organization.
  • Provide high level Subject Mater Expert (SME) expertise in construction safety regulations, including OSHA1926 and 10CFR 851.
  • Provide construction safety, health, and environmental compliance management to project plans and specifications in an oversight role of jobsites.
  • Provide guidance of Federal, State, DOE and SNL safety and health regulations and policies for implementation into the SNL/CA Programs.
  • Conduct OSHA and safety-related inspections and document in approved SNL database tracking system.
  • Establish and maintain required records and reports.
  • Review and comment on safety aspects of submitted subcontractor safety plans, with a focus on identifying what is a regulatory requirement and what is a best management practice.
  • Review and provide health and safety guidance for job site hazard assessments. Consult with SNL subject matter experts for situations requiring regulatory interpretation.
  • Verify that certifications and training of subcontractors are current and valid for the work to be performed.
  • Oversee/manage construction waste (hazardous, universal, construction debris / aggregate) in accordance with site waste management practices.
  • Provide overall support to the SNL/CA Occupational Health and Safety program/Construction Safety Program.
  • Provide additional health & safety support, primarily in response to incidents and accident investigations, as requested by the SDR.
  • Participate in weekly construction meetings and report concerns to SDR.
  • Daily site inspection reports submitted using SNL approved database (with photos as needed).
  • Monthly briefings to Occupational Health and Safety Program Management or as requested. Briefings or reports shall address OSHA, DOE, and SNL Safety & Health program metrics and data as requested.
  • Prepare and present Quarterly Safety Contractor Safety meetings.
  • Process jobsite safety assessments within expected turnaround times.
  • Process review of submitted Subcontractor safety plans within expected turnaround times.
  • Write incident reports based upon the facts personally collected.
  • Participate in root cause analysis review of incidents.
  • Support Construction Safety programmatic improvements as requested by Occupational Health and Safety program management.
  • Associates degree and Seven (7) years' experience in construction safety or other related Safety field; or B.A. or B.S. degree and Four (4) years' experience in construction safety or other related Safety field; or Ten (10) years' experience; no equivalent degree.
  • Degree must be in a safety, health, environment, fire science, industrial hygiene, or a related safety or engineering field.
  • Knowledge and application of OSHA 20 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
  • Knowledge of construction practices.
  • OSHA 30-hour training.
  • Good interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual that can work both independently as well as have demonstrated the ability to work in a close-knit team environment.
  • Demonstrated pro-active approach to work performance.
  • Ability to deal effectively with people and conflict in a non-confrontational manner.
  • Experience in effective time management and prioritization of activities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Willingness and ability to be on call and/or work a flexible schedule as some overtime may be required.
  • Full time site presence required. This job is not a telecommuting or virtual worker eligible position.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - 115,000. The offered salary will be based on the applicants qualifications, education, experience and work location.
