Overview:

The Equipment Manager oversees the readiness, maintenance, and accountability of all project vehicles and equipment at Fort Irwin. This role ensures that trucks, trailers, and utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) are properly maintained and available to support site operations. The Equipment Manager serves as the central point of coordination between the Site Manager, SUXOS, and maintenance staff or vendors, ensuring compliance with preventive maintenance programs, documentation standards, and safety requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the project vehicle and equipment maintenance program to support operational readiness.
  • Establish, coordinate, and track preventive maintenance schedules for all vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all inspections, maintenance actions, and repairs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and coordinate repair activities, whether performed in-house or by external vendors, to ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Monitor equipment availability to guarantee SUXOS and site teams have the necessary trucks, trailers, and UTVs to conduct operations without disruption.
  • Maintain and control accurate inventory levels of spare parts, tires, and repair materials, particularly for rugged terrain vehicles.
  • Ensure all maintenance practices meet safety, compliance, and environmental standards.
  • Provide input to site leadership on equipment life-cycle management, replacements, and budget requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with site leadership regarding equipment status, maintenance concerns, and operational readiness.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate of an Automotive Science Associate Degree Program.
  • ASE-Certified Senior Mechanic with proven expertise in diagnostics and repair.
  • MCC Polaris Ranger 500 and 570XP - Certified.
  • Skilled in welding and metal fabrication techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to coordinate schedules, documentation, and logistics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel and Outlook.

The employee must be able to lift heavy equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs (Note: lifting more than 50 lbs requires two or more personnel).

This position also requires frequent walking. Fieldwork is performed in various outdoor terrain and regularly requires the ability to navigate uneven ground or other obstacles found in natural surroundings.

Work Environment:

Extensive travel to field sites may be required. Fieldwork involves performing physically demanding tasks and working 4-10-hour per day), potentially in adverse field conditions (cold, hot, high wind, dusty environment, rough terrain) in remote locations.
