Essential Job Duties |
The Southern Forest Resource Assessment Consortium (
SOFAC) is embarking on a redevelopment of their core bio-economic model,
SRTS.
SRTS has been a staple in Southern Forestry space due to its simple, yet informative, approximation of the market and ecological forces at play in the region. The goal of this project is to redesign and develop a new generation of the model based on the extensive legacy of the existing model. We are not simply porting the model from Visual Basic to Python, but rather starting with a set of requirements and a blank coding slate. A successful person in this role is one who is interested in modular code design, economics and forestry, and optimization modeling. In a rather short amount of time we are looking to develop formal requirements, construct a structured analysis of the model, and write and test the code. Experience with economics and forestry is not a requirement of this position, but the ability to work independently and in a small team to solve complex technical problems is.
Essential job duties include:
- Assist in the development of a structure analysis of the SRTS model
- Develop modules within the SRTS model in Python that conform to the data specs and workflow
- Develop and execute a testing plan:
- Conduct unit testing of the individual modules
- Conduct end to end test of the SRTS model
- Contributeto technical documentation of the SRTS model
- Work well in a small team and independently
- Solve complex technicalproblems
- Identify and communicate roadblocks
