Purpose of the Role
The Area Manager - Construction plays a pivotal role in aligning Worley's mission of delivering sustainable change with the successful execution of construction projects within a designated area or region. This position provides leadership, strategic oversight, and project management expertise to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual obligations. The role is integral to Worley's ambition of being a global leader in sustainability solutions by guiding teams and customers toward innovative, data-driven, and sustainable project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee construction activities across multiple projects or locations within the assigned area, ensuring alignment with Worley's strategic sustainability objectives.

  • Define project goals and priorities, developing actionable plans to deliver quality outcomes that meet customer and corporate expectations.

  • Manage daily operational responsibilities, including cost control, scheduling, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers, internal teams, and stakeholders within the area, ensuring clear, consistent, and proactive communication.

  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and performance oversight to project teams, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.

  • Identify risks, troubleshoot technical and operational issues, and implement solutions that ensure project continuity and success.

  • Prepare and present project reports, forecasts, and performance updates to senior leadership, highlighting progress, risks, and improvement opportunities.

  • Support the development and implementation of improved project systems, processes, and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness across the area.

  • Promote Worley's commitment to health, safety, and sustainability across all projects, ensuring adherence to company and regulatory requirements.

  • Contribute to workforce planning, including recommendations for selection, training, and development of staff to build a strong pipeline of talent.

Qualifications / Skillset

  • University degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Proven track record in project or area management with responsibility for construction execution, including budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder management.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop diverse project teams.

  • Advanced knowledge of construction systems, processes, and tools, with a focus on troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence decisions, resolve conflict, and build long-term relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and make sound independent decisions in complex operational environments.

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • Commitment to health, safety, and sustainability principles consistent with Worley's vision for a more sustainable world.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills to deliver innovative and practical solutions.

  • Experience in a global, cross-cultural, or multi-site project environment preferred
