    REPORTS TO Director of ECSB

    PURPOSE The job of Paraeducator Laboratory Assistant is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for organizing, maintaining and providing equipment, and related materials in proper quantities for use in classroom, laboratory experiments; ensuring safety guidelines are applied to materials, classrooms and prep areas; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    IL Paraprofessional Certificate

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    • Perform single, technical tasks with potential need to upgrade skills

    • Adhere to safety practices and handle hazardous materials

    • Operate laboratory equipment, office equipment, and software applications

    • Apply basic math (fractions, percents, ratios) and solve practical problems

    • Read manuals, write documents, and present information effectively

    • Understand safety practices, basic chemistry, lab equipment, and hazardous material procedures

    • Apply knowledge of board policy, district, state, and federal regulations/laws

    • Schedule activities, gather/collate data, and use job-related equipment

    • Work flexibly with others, data, and equipment using defined processes

    • Collaborate with diverse individuals and communicate effectively

    • Manage detailed information and frequent interruptions

    • Meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality

    • Identify issues, create action plans, and interpret guidelines independently

    • Resolve equipment issues of moderate difficulty

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Acts as a mandated reporter for the purpose of ensuring the safety of the students.

    • Assists teachers for the purpose of setting up and breaking down lab experiments.

    • Conducts physical inventories for the purpose of verifying stock and identifying losses.

    • Distributes instructional materials to classroom labs for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment for labs and projects.

    • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files, and records for the purpose of providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.

    • Maintains equipment, classrooms, and prep areas for the purpose of ensuring a safe, orderly, and sanitary environment.

    • Procures supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items for classroom use.

    • Researches price and/or availability of lab resources for the purpose of securing required equipment and/or materials within budget.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

    RESPONSIBILITY

    Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
