MPI Senior Sustainability Specialist

SUMMARY

Mortenson Properties Inc. ("MPI") is currently seeking a Senior Sustainability Specialist to support the execution of MPI's North Star Sustainability Commitment. This role will focus on implementing sustainability as an investment strategy, engaging tenants, and tracking measurable impact across our portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Lead rollout and onboarding of portfolio-wide sustainability platform.
  • Assist with development and tracking of portfolio-level performance metrics (EnergyStar, EUI, carbon intensity, Scope 1-3).
  • Assist with tracking solar financials, production, and performance data.
  • Collaborate with marketing to create ESG messaging, website content, and property-specific materials.
  • Establish regular coordination with asset managers, including weekly standups and cross-functional meetings.
  • Support refinement and testing of sustainability strategies with the full team, including wellness, waste/water reduction and material selection in new builds.
  • Assist in implementation of renewable energy projects and analyze utility bills to optimize rate plans.
  • Work with investment team to integrate sustainability considerations into project underwriting.
  • Develop tenant engagement strategies for sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience with sustainability, ESG or renewable energy
  • Analytical skills to review data and identify actionable insights.
  • Experience with sustainability reporting, metrics, or platforms preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with sustainability software a plus.

The base pay range for this role is $97,100- $145,700. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
