About this opportunity:

The Senior Director of Accounting is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting team. This role is responsible for the oversight and development of the team responsible for the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, the timely and accurate performance of internal controls and coordination of the annual external audit.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage the general ledger accounting team.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret accounting results, identify problems, research solutions and make recommendations.
  • Serve as a lead on projects involving changes in financial business systems and/or business processes to ensure appropriate consideration and implementation of internal controls and accounting processes.
  • Perform research on US GAAP accounting policies and lead the conclusion and application of how those policies should be applied to the transactions of the company.
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors to gather information and prepare reports for financial, statutory and application control audits.
  • Implement and maintain accounting systems and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and scalability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support business initiatives and provide financial insights; identify vague and complex issues with actionable recommendations that minimize risk while improving efficiency.
  • Shape the accounting team's development and succession planning by providing mentoring, coaching, guidance and support in line with MillerKnoll's actions and values. Demonstrate agility in navigating shifting priorities and dynamic business environments, ensuring timely and effective decision-making.
  • Exhibit strong executive presence through confident communication and the ability to represent finance leadership across senior forums.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree required, degree in accounting or finance and CPA preferred.
  • 10 or more years of professional accounting experience.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience managing a team of accounting or finance professionals.
  • Ability to work with the appropriate professional care for confidential information.
  • Highly organized and able to multitask.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office Suite including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
