Department of Student Affair, UMKC School Medicine

Job Description

The Student Affairs department at the UMKC School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Senior Academic Advisor (Senior Education Team Coordinator). The selected candidate will provide a high level of initiative, organization, detail, and student service while providing high-quality work.

Duties include:

  • Advise approximately 120 students in an intense, year-round, medical school curriculum during the first and second year in the program.
  • Provide both academic and personal counseling to students and connect students with resources when appropriate
  • Work in partnership with Student Affairs staff and leadership and faculty, Councils and other departments within the School of Medicine regarding student concerns and curriculum
  • Have high-level knowledge and understanding of School of Medicine and UMKC policy and be able to effectively explain that policy to students and faculty
  • Monitor course progression, enrollment accuracy, and other data-related tasks
  • Assist with coordinating class meetings and yearly events and trainings for students within the school
  • Oversee staff training, plan staff development endeavors, and ensure services are consistent among staff
  • Serve as supervisor to the year 1&2 academic advisor
  • Provide senior leadership to the year 1&2 office on behalf of the Associate and Assistant Deans of Student Affairs
  • Other duties as assigned, both scheduled and ad-hoc, as pertinent to department-wide Student Affairs tasks and goals
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, or related field preferred.
  • 3 years or more of experience working within higher education administration is preferred.
  • Ability to keyboard proficiently and comfortability in working within multiple data systems is necessary.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, reliable, student-centered, and approachable.
  • Previous experience supervising and coaching staff
Anticipated Hiring Range

$50,000 - $56,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
