Purpose of Position:

A CES Construction Superintendent provides leadership, labor, and technical expertise for the on-pad project management and installation of Messer CES product supply equipment across the United States. Oversee larger scale CES Installation projects including where primary function is not labor but focuses on directing, technical guidance, safety supervision, and best practice adherence. This includes the management of Messer resources and third-party contract resources through the safe and quality installation of the Customer Stations Equipment. Deliver projects on time and on budget, alongside the Project Manager, with an emphasis on driving efficiency in the process. Responsibilities include installation, contractor management, layout/design, execution, start up, and training. Works with Maintenance and Service Managers to support the region as appropriate.

The successful candidate is expected to be an Installation Expert. They should be well-practiced at managing both internal and external resources, how to handle barriers that arise at site, and be able to understand and communicate standards for installation and safety. When in charge of smaller-scale projects, the CES Construction Superintendent provides all the functions of a Construction Technician or Senior Construction Technician, and also fulfills all aspects of Construction Superintendent on large-scale projects.

Principal Duties:

* This position reports to the Manager, US CES Construction Technicians, and is aligned with the US CES Construction Engineering Team, including project managers and administrative support for logistics and project planning and coordination.

* This position is home-based with the expectation of frequent weekly travel between one third and one half of the weeks of the year. Typical travel starts on Mondays with return travel on Fridays while leading large-scale projects as well as performing labor for smaller-scale projects. While occasional weekend work/travel may be required the goal is to be home on weekends.

* Supervise Messer CES bulk cryogenic system installations as the onsite project lead for all aspects of the field work scope at various customer sites based on assigned projects. These projects will typically be the most complex and technically challenging projects that Messer CES executes.

* Provide detailed technical knowledge to customers and contractors on specific Messer technology regarding safety, electrical, mechanical, and process requirements. Ensure compliance with industry standards and codes.

* Responsible for the installation of bulk cryogenic and non-cryogenic systems to include Nitrogen, Oxygen, Argon, CO2, Hydrogen, and Helium systems in the assigned coverage area.

* Primary mechanical skillsets include detailed familiarity and the ability to develop expertise in piping/plumbing work on cryogenic systems, brazing, troubleshooting and installation of valves and regulators, and basic electrical troubleshooting.

* Be the face of Messer with our customers, providing key customer technical support during the start of a new bulk installation contract or an upgrade at an existing customer site.

* Act as a technical resource accompanying the sales organization on customer calls.

* Responsible for management and functional onsite supervision of Messer resources and Third-Party Contractor resources during the installation on site

* Responsible for holding daily Toolbox Talks and executing all Messer safety requirements during installations

* Works with CES Project Managers to ensure all appropriate equipment is ordered so that installations can proceed safely and efficiently, meeting appropriate regional Code requirements. Excellent administrative, computer, email, and Teams Meeting skills for project planning and full documentation and communication of all responsibilities is a must.

* Assures proper on-site labor resources are organized and available for the installation

* Works with CES Regional Maintenance and Service Managers to ensure site layout and installation meets Maintenance and Deliver needs while adhering to North America best practices

* Works to implement solutions as directed by Messer standards and qualified engineer resources

* Tracks time and materials on projects and enters into appropriate Messer systems

* Manages field scope of work and escalates scope changes as appropriate

* Provides project management and coordination for customers as needed

* Responsible for operational readiness inspection and handoff of site to local maintenance technician and customer. Ensure documentation of customer start-up is completed - safety function checklists, training with attendance sheets, and function tests, etc.

* Assists local Maintenance Technician with Readiness Training, including system operations and maintenance

* Follow Messer safety policies, procedures, and goals

* Manage personal storeroom of inventory, approximately $100K-$200K in rotating parts

* Ensure compliance with Messer Contractor Management Policies and Procedures

* Complete Virtual and In-Person Training as assigned, maintain self-paced training via Traccess training program and achieve established training targets.

* Assist CES Regional Maintenance and Service Managers in Regional Technician training and qualification and Messer standards implementation as relates to Installation best practices

* Performs work as needed to implement technical solutions, including installations, equipment troubleshooting and equipment maintenance

* Assists CES Assets Manager with equipment readiness inspections at Vendor locations as requested

* Based on special skills and expertise, the chosen candidate may also maintain selected local sites as installation schedule allows or as required to best service Customer needs

* Train Construction Technicians and Maintenance and Reliability Technicians on Messer CES best practices, installation standards, and maintenance and repair of Messer equipment and systems

Basic Qualifications:

* High school degree

* 10 years of cryogenic installation and maintenance (or comparable)

* Valid driver's license with good driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with cryogenic piping systems, materials, and design a plus

* Experience with welding, brazing, and fabrication a plus

* 2-year technical degree preferred

The hourly range for this position is $36.75-$54.00 .
