Scope of Position

This highly motivated individual, as part of the Quality team, will be responsible for supporting the operation of the E-Coat line, deionized water system and associated wastewater treatment plant by performing the necessary daily chemical testing and recording and reporting this information on process status. The testing will include the sampling of the paint, cleaning and rinse tanks each day and measuring parameters that characterize the health of the baths such as pH, conductivity, titrated acid or base concentration, % solids, MEQ and others. Responsibilities will include assisting with quality measurements and other tasks to keep the line operating within normal parameters, as well as assist in future process line improvements. Accurately record, document and store collected test data as directed. Communicating results of testing will also be required.

This position reports to the Quality Manager. This role is onsite and is based in Germantown, WI

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage as a member of the Manufacturing team in daily process operation and associated sustaining engineering processes, including the following:
    • Assist Process Operator in the sampling of the e-coat line, deionized water and wastewater treatment systems.
    • Analyze cleaning baths for concentration of H+ or OH- to assess cleaning performance
    • Analyze individual color baths for % solids and MEQ to determine when additions of concentrates must be made.
    • Analyze test panels or parts for color, coating thickness or other performance measures to validate that the parts are within specs
    • Document and store testing results
    • Maintain clean and orderly work areas
    • Make list of process supplies to be requisitioned as directed
    • Assist in the development of process or testing improvements, & update analysis methods as needed.
    • Be familiar with calibration records and schedules for calibration of lab instruments
    • Assist Quality team with incoming e-coat materials testing
    • Maintain lab instruments in working order
    • Corrective action process participation
    • Cost reduction/product improvement activities
    • Comply with all safety procedures as directed
  • Maintain an atmosphere of continuous improvement related to material process, capability, and cross functional collaboration.
  • Assist with technical and regulatory requirements gathering and documentation.
  • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by the Quality Manager or Company management.
  • Responsibility directly tied to Watts Value (Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, Transparency)

Required Qualifications

  • An associate's degree in a scientific discipline
  • Basic understanding on how to follow lab testing procedures
  • 1+ years experience working with basic lab instrumentation (balances, pH meters, glassware)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing specs and their proper use
  • Experience with proper process sample collection/storage methods
  • Comfortable in a lab setting as well as a manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with how to perform verification checks on various instruments and in the basic preparation of a lab report communicating results.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks, and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Chemistry
  • Hands on testing experience with either a paints/coating line or plating line
  • Experience with wet chemistry lab techniques such as titrations, standards and reagent preparation

Working Conditions:

While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site at a manufacturing facility and will perform the majority of your duties in an office environment. You may, at times, be required to be present on the manufacturing floor and will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. You will be required to work in the office at the Germantown, WI location (Monday - Friday). Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, and copiers.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry light objects, such as office supplies, documents, or small equipment.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands/ fingers to push, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and depth perception
