The Department of Ophthalmology at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Program Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

This position will Independently coordinate and execute programs, inquiries and requests from patients, parents, and professionals that interface with CVRP patients. This position will be stationed at the Eye Institute and will be the contact person for 6 CVRP staff field employees. This is a vital position that will keep the program in a forward moving trajectory. You will attend Institutes of Learning and Medical clinics. This requires creating curriculum, creating a detailed schedule, collaborating with other professionals who help support the program, contracting individuals as counselors, completing paperwork to pay staff, create a budget, contacting businesses (such as hotels, retailers, and recreational establishments), organizing multiple layers of events for the overall program, and assuring materials needed for the program are purchased and ready for use
Work toward a master's degree completion expectation in vision impairment within 3 years.

What You'll Do

Providing direct support services to blind and visually impaired students.
* Provides direct services to CVRP students
Liaison between medical and education professional
* Referrals to appropriate organizations for vision services
* Prepare medical information for clinics
* Organize event
Coordinator of CVRP Institute of Learnings (IOL).
* Manages budget for IOL.
* Creates programming
* Supervises contractual employees and children
* Tracks and assist with grant writing.
Clinics
* Evaluates blind and visually impaired children
* Coordinate's location and communicates with parents, teachers and physicians.
* Create written reports from clinics and distribute

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education or like degree with the understanding of continuing education in vision impairment.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

* Knowledge of individualized instruction tailored to functional vision levels.
* Collaboration and Advocacy
* Work closely with general educators, O&M specialists, therapists, and families.
* Advocate for accessibility and inclusion in educational settings.
* Knowledge of Visual Impairments
* Understanding of a wide range of visual conditions and how they affect learning and access.
* Ability to modify the environment and materials for accessibility.
* Event Planning and Coordination Skills
* Organize logistics for student participation, venue setup, scheduling, and materials distribution.
* Communicate with families, school staff, and external partners.
* Understand the Braille Challenge structure, scoring, and evaluation.
* Support students' preparation and skill development in braille reading and writing.
* Data Collection and Reporting
* Track participant data, submit scores, and ensure compliance with national standards.
* Leadership and Outreach
* Promote the event to students, staff, and community members.
* Build excitement and recognition around braille literacy and student achievement.
* Time Management and Multitasking
* Balance regular TVI duties with the planning and execution of a large-scale, time-bound event..
