What You Can Expect

The Interconnection Specialist, Advisor supports pre-construction development, engineering, and energy market activities for ENGIE North America's portfolio of utility-scale renewable projects across the U.S. As a key member of the Transmission & Interconnection team, you will contribute to grid interconnection efforts and broader renewable development initiatives aligned with the company's growth strategy.

Additionally, the role provides Transmission & Interconnection insights for large load interconnections, including co-location and behind-the-meter configurations.

What You Will Deliver:

  • Strategic Queue Positioning: Secure viable queue positions with clear critical-path schedules, deposits, and commercial readiness milestones tracked and delivered on time
  • Interconnection Agreements: Lead negotiation and coordination of Interconnection Agreements and associated network upgrades through handoff at Notice to Proceed (NTP)
  • Deliverability Strategy: Develop and execute strategies to win and retain TPD allocations, and plan for Full Capacity Deliverability Status (FCDS) or Partial Deliverability to support Resource Adequacy (RA)-eligible offtake
  • Risk & Cost Control: Provide executive-level briefings on queue/study status, upgrade exposure (LDNU/ADNU), schedule risks, and mitigation strategies

Core Responsibilities:

Early Development & Siting

  • Guide Point of Interconnection (POI) and route screening in collaboration with modeling teams
  • Advise on injection capabilities and queue optimization strategies

Queue Strategy & Applications

  • Lead CAISO/WECC interconnection requests, including application submissions, fee/deposit management, and milestone tracking
  • Manage cluster and independent study processes, validations, and stakeholder meetings

Study Management

  • Coordinate feasibility, system impact, and facility studies with internal modelers and external PTOs/ISOs
  • Analyze thermal, voltage, and stability results; assess upgrade assignability, cost reasonableness, and reconfiguration options to reduce scope

Deliverability & RA Positioning

  • Plan and manage TPD retention strategies, affidavit packages, and timing relative to PPA milestones
  • Align FCDS/Partial deliverability strategies with offtake requirements

Agreements & Execution

  • Negotiate commercial terms of Interconnection Agreements, including milestones, security, provisional service options, and outage/energization coordination

Risk Management & Governance

  • Maintain upgrade and schedule risk registers; present mitigation strategies such as portfolio routing, alternative POIs, and phased development
  • Ensure compliance with FERC orders and NERC standards

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Lead external engagement with PTOs/ISOs, utilities, and consultants
  • Coordinate internally across development, engineering, M&A, and finance teams
  • Collaborate with grid and production cost modeling analysts to assess project impacts
  • Communicate macro-level changes (e.g., queue reforms, transmission projects, retirements, generation additions) to affected stakeholders
  • Support utility negotiations for interconnection agreements, project scheduling, and site acquisition

Industry Engagement & Strategic Insight

  • Represent ENGIE in industry advocacy groups
  • Stay informed on national renewable energy trends and opportunities

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related technical field, along with at minimum seven (7) years experience in utility-scale renewables or transmission & distribution (T&D), including direct ownership of interconnection workstreams. CAISO and WECC experience highly preferred
  • Technical expertise in interpreting and challenging Powerflow results, including consultant work product, and the ability to communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven commercial acumen with a proven track record of translating study outcomes into upgrade cost ranges, contingencies, and hedging strategies aligned with offtake RA requirements

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build constructive relationships across internal teams and external partners, and represent ENGIE effectively in collaborative environments
  • High attention to detail and a proactive, results-oriented approach to gathering and synthesizing required information to support decision-making, managing priorities, and driving progress independently within a large, matrixed organization

  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to prioritize critical-path tasks, manage multiple workstreams, and operate independently within a large, matrixed organization

  • Desire to advance the adoption and deployment of renewable energy solutions across North America

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid in-office work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
