About the Role:

As a in the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice area supporting our New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) client, you will work on health information exchange (HIE) and health information technology (HIT) initiatives focused on governance, risk, and compliance (GRC). This role will require collaboration with colleagues, clients, and vendors to support the rapid change occurring with a large NYSDOH program. NYSTEC is considered a trusted advisor, providing subject matter expertise and connecting the dots for our clients. NYSTEC has consulted on some of the largest Medicaid initiatives and has served in various roles across a multitude of New York State healthcare technology systems.

Serving as a HIT Compliance Consultant, your day-to-day role will include supporting our client with GRC in support of NYSDOH's HIE/HIT program. You will work with clients to ensure that regulatory, policy, and contractual requirements are met by third parties.

This position is fully onsite position, with work taking place in person at our client's location or at the NYSTEC office in Albany, NY.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the client and their vendors to understand the supporting technology of the HIE program.
  • Review technical specifications and provide feedback.
  • Develop current-state assessments and perform gap analyses.
  • Document, trace, and prioritize business requirements.
  • Document user stories/requirements that address the client's objectives for the HIE program.
  • Compile and synthesize analyses and findings into reports and other client deliverables (e.g., process flows, data flows, system architectures, context diagrams, use cases).
  • Anticipate and communicate issues/risks.
  • Exhibiting excellent writing, documentation, communication, and analytical skills to meet project goals.


About you:
Required Qualifications

  • HIT and/or HIE experience.
  • Understanding of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security and privacy requirements.
  • Understanding of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-53 controls.
  • Knowledge of NIST 800-30 style risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Healthcare technology, security, and compliance training and certifications.


Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree and eight years of related experience in HIT or HIE.
  • An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and professional experience may be considered.



The target salary range for this position is $109,639.00 - $145,271.50 per year. When determining compensation, we carefully consider several factors including education, professional experience, and job-related qualifications
