Leidos, a leading defense, intelligence, and technology company, is seeking a motivated Network Systems Engineer Intern to join our Digital Modernization Group on the Global Solutions Management - Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at Scott AFB, IL. As part of our team, you'll contribute to the operations, sustainment, and defense of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) within the DOD Information Network (DODIN), supporting the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

What You'll Do:
* Assist with network integration, testing, security engineering, and implementation configuration support.
* Collaborate with network engineers to improve system performance and security.
* Employ a combination of technical and functional expertise to recommend solutions to satisfy customer technical and service management requirements.
* Assist in development of Tactics Techniques and Procedures (TTP) documents.
* Support system performance tuning and enhancements.
* Support troubleshooting of deployed, hardened network end devices.
* Participate in engineering meetings to bridge the gap between operations and engineering.
* Perform technical maintenance on network devices including routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers.
* Implement and test secure communications configurations.

What You'll Bring:
* Actively pursuing a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Information Technology) from an accredited college/university.
* Solid understanding of IT principles and networking concepts (OSI Model, Python, Ansible, Yang, HTML/XML, VBA, SQL, Unix/Linux, Bash, SED/AWK).
* Proven ability to perform data analysis, extract meaningful insights, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Commitment to obtaining Security+ certification (or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT II certification) within a specified timeframe.
* Eligibility to obtain an interim Secret DoD Security clearance (sponsored by Leidos).
* Must be a U.S. Citizen.
* Geographic Requirement: This position is based on-site at Scott AFB, Illinois.
* Reliable transportation to Scott AFB is required

Preferred Qualifications:
* Understanding of encryption concepts and devices.
* Practical understanding of enterprise WAN principles.
* Entry level knowledge of Network and Security architecture, network topology, IT device integrity, and common security elements.
* Basic knowledge of engineering and troubleshooting networks, including routing, and switching experience such as one or more of the following: MPLS, VPNs, routing protocols i.e. BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, switching protocols i.e. Spanning Tree Protocol, VLANs, LLDP, VoIP, Multicast protocols and emerging network technologies.
* Entry- Level understanding and knowledge of IP network/subnet addressing.
* Effective written and oral communication and problem-solving skills
* Willingness to learn and take initiative in grasping large scale enterprise network solution implementation.
* Willingness to adapt to team dynamics in support of senior military, government civilian and contractors.
