Job Summary

The Florida APEX Accelerator (APEX Accelerator) at FIU, a partnership between the Florida APEX Accelerator network and Florida International University, offers at no-cost a team of business specialists who work with entrepreneurs and business owners in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties to access opportunities with government contracts and government innovation programs. The APEX Accelerator at FIU also organizes workshops, seminars, networking events and other events in the community to benefit
entrepreneurs and business owners in the region. The Government Contracting Specialist will provide business advice and assistance to Miami-Dade and Monroe County entrepreneurs on matters related to the procurement of Federal, State, and local government prime contracts and subcontracts.

  • Provide specialized one-on-one advice on areas including government marketing plans; procurement opportunity identification including electronic search profiles; government contracting & subcontracting qualifications; SBIR/STTR funding opportunities; procurement laws, regulations and policies; procurement classification systems; requirements for government certification; fulfilling vendor registration systems; and solicitation interpretation and proposal development.
  • Lead and execute efforts to educate clients, partners and stakeholders on how to pursue Federal, State and local government prime contracts and subcontracts, as well as Florida APEX Accelerator and center services and impact.
  • Manage research efforts in their service area to identify potential client success stories, client impact and outcomes, best practices from other groups, and opportunities to enhance delivery of services.
  • Oversee and maintain educational materials, resources, information and data sources in their service area for use by center consultants, staff, business clients, and community partners.
  • Represent the Florida APEX Accelerator as requested in University and community settings.
  • Apply strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication, problem-solving, and listening skills.
  • Manage client portfolio by applying strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Apply proficient computer skills to enter data regarding client interaction on the same week the interaction takes place; ensuring the advisors client information in the center's CRM system is always up to date.
  • Travel throughout Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization and four (4) years of related experience, or Master's degree in an appropriate specialization and two (2) years related experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience with government contract procurement principles and procedures preferred.
  • Business consulting and business ownership experience.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.
