Job Description

The Digital Platform (DP) Technology Manager, part of the Platform Technologies & Research group, works alongside the DP Platform Lead to manage a portfolio of services and technologies to deliver an application framework for, and facilitate data exchange between, factory floor automation devices, edge compute, and cloud hosted software.

This is a hybrid role and you will work from our our offices in Milwaukee or Mequon or Mayfield Heights. You will report to the Director, technology management

Main responsibilities

  • Identification, evaluation, definition and acceptance of features and associated requirements that form the priorities for the DP development team.
  • The delivered services will be made available as common technology assets to Rockwell Automation businesses and select 3rd party automation software suppliers or partners.
  • We ask that you understand Rockwell Automation's Integrated Architecture and industrial communications, along with the automation market, competitive offerings, and OEM, SI, and End User customer needs, to provide technology direction and implementation strategies across Rockwell Automation software products and services.
  • You will frequently work with product management, engineering, other Rockwell Automation businesses and occasionally third-party partners.

Essential Functions:

You will be an important liaison between market and adopter needs, product management, and technology research and development. The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Work with the Platform Lead and System Architect to create and prioritize features that support important use cases the Digital Platform is targeting
  • Create features that inform the development of the Digital Platform's infrastructure and development practices, including test, service integration, CI/CD, and bundling
  • Work with adopters to capture and develop a robust set of non-functional requirements
  • Collaborate with other Rockwell businesses on the productization and deployment of Digital Platform Services.
  • Gather market requirements and feedback for Digital Platform Services from other Rockwell teams and partners and collaborate with them on the productization and deployment of Digital Platform Services.
  • Act as the champion for the future automation device communication strategy with other Rockwell Automation businesses. Must be willing to work across boundaries to understand requirements, educate businesses and promote the vision for the Digital Platform.
  • Maintain alignment with other subject matter experts across Rockwell Automation.
  • Perform or support the evaluations of internal and external technologies to ensure world-class technology development and use through various benchmarking activities and to create new ways to address customer problems.
  • Attend technical symposiums and exhibits on industrial control systems and cloud-native software to expand knowledge on available technologies.

The Essentials- you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

The Preferred- you will have:

  • Product management experience, experience with cloud-based software.
  • Strong experience digging into customer feedback and following up to further define issues
  • A history of collaboration across multiple departments and teams to achieve common goals
  • Typically need at least 5 years of related experience and demonstrated knowledge of industrial automation communications and software applications.
