SUMMARY

The Public Safety Technology Coordinator supports the Assistant Director of Public Safety for Technology in overseeing high-level technology initiatives and long-term strategic planning for the department. This role is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and enhancing critical public safety technology infrastructure to ensure operational readiness and reliability. The Technology Coordinator serves as a key leader, fostering collaboration among technical staff, public safety personnel, and external partners. Success in this position requires strong leadership, exceptional communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively bridge technical solutions with operational needs in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Public Safety for Technology.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with policy/procedures, strategic planning, work standards and training to improve the overall quality of the Technology Division, and the Department.
  • Responsible for the coordination of technology activities of the department; to include, but not limited to technical services and projects, setup, maintenance, and coordination of public safety CAD systems, related data-system infrastructures, computer networks, special communications projects, or any initiative assigned by senior staff.
  • Recommends operational and tactical priorities, assists with use and application of new and existing technologies and projects, and recommends resource allocation. Designs long-range plans and makes goal projections to provide direction to achieve the Department's mission, goals, relative to technology initiatives.
  • Spearheads troubleshooting and repair initiatives for critical systems when the need arises.
  • Manage logistical needs of the Department including asset management, deployment and tracking of technology assets.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with administration, field users, vendors, and the public. Always maintains a professional workplace and ensures that the highest degree of customer service skills are utilized without compromise.
  • Develops and maintains teamwork and promotes positive morale with technical staff.
  • Assumes position in on-call rotation to include after hours, holiday, and weekend duties.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned with the scope and range of job responsibilities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a Public Safety Technology related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Public Safety technical environment.
  • Driver's License
  • Subject to criminal background check.

Experience and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of and experience configuring/maintaining/troubleshooting Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Strong knowledge of IP Networking, DHCP and DNS.
  • VMWare/Broadcom vSphere experience is required.
  • VMware/Omnissa Horizon VDI experience is required.
  • Dell vxRail experience is required.
  • Knowledge of telephony, computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) equipment, and public safety field and communications functions.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent oral presentation and writingskills.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and work well with customers, management, andpeers.
  • Ability to work as part of ateam and independently.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and coordinate resolutions to critical situations, under all conditions.
  • Strong time managementskills.
  • Accurate and detailoriented.
  • Ability to be on time and reliable.
  • Must project a positive and professional image and attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Office environment (90%) / Travel to other County facilities (10%).
  • Must be able to attend meetings both on and off site at various hours.
  • This is an Essential Employee position. Essential employees are obligated to report to work as scheduled or remain at work during emergencies.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and operate a keyboard &mouse for moderate periods of time.
  • Ability to work during all weather conditions.
  • Ability to do light level physical work that would include reaching, pulling, bending, and lifting.
  • Not eligible for Remote / Work from Home.
