PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Are you a recent engineering graduate ready to launch your career in a dynamic, hands-on environment? At CPKC, we're building the future of rail, and we're looking for passionate, curious, and driven individuals to join our team as Engineers in Training. This is more than a job - it's a development opportunity with real impact, mentorship, and room to grow.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supporting the planning and execution of railway infrastructure projects
  • Assisting with design, permitting, and coordination of engineering activities
  • Collaborating with experienced engineers and consultants
  • Preparing cost estimates, technical reports, and project documentation
  • Participating in site visits, surveying, and construction oversight
  • Engaging with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient project delivery
  • Learning to manage project timelines, budgets, and safety standards
  • Providing on-call support for operational needs (rotational basis)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil preferred; Mechanical or Industrial considered)
  • Eligible for P.Eng designation
  • Minimum 3 years of experience (co-op/internship experience welcomed)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office; SAP experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Interest in railway infrastructure and field-based engineering work

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

BECOMING A RAILROADER:

As an employee with a North American presence, the possibility does exist that the location of your position may be changed based on organizational requirements.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
