ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University.
ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the
ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments.

Information Technology and Computing Services (
ITCS) at East Carolina University supports enterprise-wide computing and technology services. The IT Enterprise Infrastructure team is composed of Cloud Infrastructure, Servers and Storage Infrastructure, and Networking Infrastructure. The IT Enterprise Infrastructure team is charged with designing, building, maintaining, securing, and optimizing the foundational technology infrastructure that allow all digital operations to run reliably, efficiently, and securely, and in support of the mission of
ECU. |
Job Duties |
The Director of IT Enterprise Infrastructure is responsible for leading and managing the organization's technology infrastructure, ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of all IT infrastructure services, including network, systems, cloud environments, data centers, voice and collaboration platforms, and IT operations. This leader will develop strategic roadmaps, oversee daily operations, and drive innovation to support organizational goals, ensuring alignment with overall IT and business strategies. This position will report to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer and have three Assistant Directors as direct reports.
- Develop and execute the infrastructure strategy, architecture, and roadmap in alignment with enterprise IT goals.
- Lead initiatives to modernize infrastructure, including cloud adoption, automation, and hybrid environments.
- Collaborate with CIO, IT leadership, and campus stakeholders to ensure infrastructure supports organizational priorities and fiscal sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of IT Networking to ensure the network design, implementation, and support meets university and IT goals and objectives
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of IT Servers and Storage to ensure data center operations, server infrastructure, storage infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and backup/disaster recovery design, implementation, and support align with university and IT goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of IT Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) design, implementation, and support align with university and IT goals and objectives.
- Direct efforts to maintain high availability, security, and performance of infrastructure systems.
- Establish operational standards, KPIs, and SLAs for infrastructure services.
- Lead continual improvement of IT operational processes including change management, problem management, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with the Chief Information Security Officer and the Cybersecurity Operations Center to ensure effective monitoring, alerting, and incident response for all critical infrastructure services.
- Partner with Information Security teams to implement security controls across infrastructure platforms.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, industry, and organizational standards related to infrastructure systems.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities for infrastructure and operations staff.
- Manage vendor relationships for hardware, software, and services related to infrastructure.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and procurement for infrastructure services.
This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (
FWA) under the
ECU
FWA Policy.
The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.
This position requires the employee to reside within a reasonable commutable distance of the
ECU main campus. "Reasonable commuting distance" is defined as a location that does not exceed a distance that can be safely traveled in two hours by automobile under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads to employee's assigned duty station in Greenville, NC.

Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is required.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
Experience leading a large, complex, IT team with a focus on IT Infrastructure. Experience developing both long term strategic and short term operational plans, goals, and objectives, setting success metrics, and tracking progress. Progressive experience in personnel management with over 5 years of direct personnel management experience including staff planning and succession planning. Experience preparing, managing, and tracking IT budgets. Experience leading large scale infrastructure initiatives such as cloud/co-location migrations, upgrades, deploying new technologies, etc. Experience leading teams that manage IT infrastructure including cloud, servers and storage, and networking components. |
