Information Technology and Computing Services (
ITCS) at East Carolina University supports enterprise-wide computing and technology services. The primary purpose of this team is to maintain and enhance administrative systems while leading initiatives in business process redesign to drive workflow improvements that foster operational excellence throughout the university. |
Job Duties |
INTERNAL POSTING: Open only to applicants currently employed by East Carolina University
The Assistant Director of Enterprise Applications Administration provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the university's portfolio of enterprise applications and digital solutions. This position leads two primary teams: a Digital Solutions team that partners with campus stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions and an Applications Administration team responsible for the configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization of a wide range of administrative systems. The Assistant Director works closely with functional business units, IT leadership, and vendors to ensure that enterprise applications are reliable, secure, and aligned with the institution's operational and strategic goals.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the Digital Solutions team and the Applications Administration team, fostering a collaborative, service-oriented, and innovative culture.
- Set team priorities, allocate resources effectively, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality support, projects, and solutions.
- Develop staff skills through coaching, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Oversee intake and management of business requests, problems, and improvement opportunities related to administrative applications and processes.
- Guide the Digital Solutions team in partnering with campus stakeholders to gather requirements, design solutions, and implement digital forms, workflow tools, and automation that enhance administrative efficiency.
- Promote user-centered design, effective change management, and process documentation to ensure successful solution adoption and long-term sustainability.
- Provide oversight for the configuration, administration, maintenance, and support of enterprise administrative applications, including:
- Digital forms platforms
- Document imaging and management systems
- Workflow and business process automation tools
- Purchasing and procurement systems
- User Access Controls
- Other related enterprise administrative applications critical to campus operations.
- Ensure these systems are secure, reliable, integrated, and compliant with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
- Manage system upgrades, patching, testing, and quality assurance processes for all supported applications.
- Coordinate vendor relationships, support contracts, and licensing for administrative systems and tools.
- Serve as a key liaison between technical teams and administrative departments such as Finance, HR, Procurement, Enrollment Services, and other functional units.
- Facilitate regular meetings and communication with stakeholders to gather feedback, prioritize enhancements, share updates, and coordinate system roadmaps.
- Partner with IT security, infrastructure, and data governance teams to ensure applications meet institutional standards for security, integration, and data integrity.
- Lead or support projects involving the implementation, enhancement, or replacement of administrative applications and digital solutions.
- Develop and maintain clear standards, procedures, documentation, and training to ensure consistent and reliable system administration and user support.
- Monitor service performance, establish and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), and drive continuous improvement for supported applications and services.
The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.
This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (
FWA) under the
ECU
FWA Policy.
This position requires the employee to reside within a reasonable commutable distance of the
ECU main campus. "Reasonable commuting distance" is defined as a location that does not exceed a distance that can be safely traveled in two hours by automobile under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads to employee's assigned duty station in Greenville, NC.

Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is required.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Experience administering or supporting a variety of administrative systems
- Experience designing or overseeing business process redesign and workflow improvements using digital tools.
- Familiarity with integration strategies connecting administrative applications with ERP systems and other institutional platforms.
- Experience working in higher education or another complex organization.
- Understanding of data governance, information security, and compliance requirements relevant to administrative systems.
- Relevant certifications or training in enterprise applications, project management, business analysis, or process automation.
- Supervisory experience leading and motivating teams, including the oversight, coaching, and professional development of staff to meet performance targets and support long-term growth.
