The Honors College at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Scholarship Program Specialist.

About the Opportunity

This position oversees and administers the scholarships programs of the Honors College. Additionally, duties include evaluating and scoring Honors College admissions applications and maintaining and developing alumni relations, which may include on and off-campus events

    What You'll Do

    Scholarships

  • Oversee and administer all aspects of the Bucklew and Foundation Scholarships
  • This includes interfacing with admissions to identify incoming eligible students
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Honors College Marketing and Communications to generate and send appropriate invitations
  • Working with the Dean of the Honors College and other stakeholders formulate appropriate applications for the College's scholarships
  • Communicate with eligible students apprising them of the status of their applications relative to deadlines
  • Working with University Events, facilitate the Bucklew recognition dinner to include the President of WVU and the WVU Foundation
  • Facilitate review of scholarship applications in a timely manner, including taking an active role in reviewing applications where appropriate
  • Working with the Dean of the Honors College or their designee, develop appropriate review committees
  • Communicate with current scholars their progress in fulfilling scholarship requirements
  • Facilitate disbursement of scholarship awards to students through appropriate university mechanisms
  • Represent the Honors College at various events
  • Coordinate with Honors College staff to implement special events

Alumni

  • Foster relationships with Honors College Alumni
  • Represent the Honors College at WVU alumni association meetings
  • Connect Honors College alumni to the current Honors College students
  • In cooperation with Honors College staff, facilitate campus events for alumni

Admissions

  • Evaluates and grades Honors College applications, and meets deadline dates as established by the Honors College Dean

Pay Grade: 16

Work Hours: 20 hours per week

Qualifications
  • Master's degree required
  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience in the following:
    • Planning
    • Writing reports
    • Working on a team

    • relevant experience

  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • A strong team player.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and proofreading techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer software applications, including desktop publishing, databases, and word-processing.
  • Knowledge of office methods, procedures, practices, and protocols.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills to maintain, accurate filing systems, record keeping, and workload management.
  • Mathematical skills necessary to perform financial calculations.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage comprehensive multiple projects and work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to problem-solve to determine best course of action to take when presented with situations that require immediate attention.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise judgement.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action.
  • Ability to operate office PC utilizing various work-processing software packages and programs such as Windows, Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel.
  • The ability to speak in Spanish would also be helpful. An excellent record of customer service skills is required

  • Interacting with students and parents at either the secondary or higher education environment
