Compensation Grade: P22Compensation Details: Minimum: $81,696.00 - Maximum: $81,696.00 AnnuallyDepartment (OPH) CCH - Division of EpidemiologyJob Description: Responsibilities The Research Scientist II (RS II) will join the Electronic Syndromic Surveillance System (ESSS) team within the Bureau of Surveillance and Data Systems (BSDS) to support and advance syndromic surveillance efforts with a focus on mental health. Working closely with the Office of Mental Health, the RS II will contribute to the Capital Connect project. The RS II will conduct research to validate and refine mental health-related syndrome definitions, developing and adjusting SAS filters, and generating surveillance reports. The position involves monitoring ESSS alerts to detect spikes or outbreaks in emergency department (ED) visits related to suicide and mental health issues. In addition, the incumbent will provide analysis and system support for enteric and vaccine preventable diseases, as necessary. Additional responsibilities include: maintaining and enhancing the ESSS report module; researching and improving outbreak detection methodologies; creating and updating user documentation and guides; training internal and external partners on the use of ESSS for mental health surveillance; preparing peer-reviewed abstracts, presentations, and publications to share findings and best practices. Other appropriate related duties. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Biostatistics, Economics, Psychology, or related field and three years of research experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field and two years of research experience; OR a doctorate in a related field.
