University Transit Service (UTS) at the University of Virginia's Department of Parking and Transportation is seeking a Training and Transit Operations Specialist. Our staff members work within the University Transit Service to provide transportation services to the University of Virginia community. Strong customer service skills and a commitment to safety are necessary. Duties include the operation of a transit bus unit, training unlicensed and licensed CDL holders to operate transit units, covering operational supervisory tasks, as well as transit operation in support of University-wide events. Selected candidates will be required to be able to drive any/all buses and support vehicles in the fleet. Training and Transit Operations Specialists work within University Transit Service to provide transportation services to the University community. The Training and Transit Operations Specialist will work with unlicensed and licensed employees to safely teach them how to operate a transit unit and other transportation services. In addition, the Training Specialist must have a positive demeanor and enthusiasm for teaching others, as well as work ethic. The incumbent is also expected to operate transit units on fixed routes, as well as provide transit operation for University-wide events. Work is routinely monitored. Work schedule: University Transit Service and Parking and Transportation have services that operate 24 hours per day / 7 days a week. This requires that all employees have flexibility with scheduling. Due to the dynamic nature of this position, successful candidates should expect to be assigned to evening, night, and weekend hours, depending on service level and coverage needs. Salary Range: The anticipated hiring range is $25.58-31.88/hr, $53,206-$66,310 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This position will remain open until filled. Safe operation also includes repetitive motion with both ankles/feet, with both possessing the strength and dexterity to fully depress the service brake and accelerator (right) and turn signal controls (left) present on the transit bus units within the Parking and Transportation fleet. Boarding/alighting the transit bus requires the ability to climb stairs (at least one step up/down). Successful operation of ADA Accessible equipment aboard the transit bus requires bending, lifting, and carrying. Work performed during special events and as part of servicing the equipment requires standing, traveling, and the potential for bending, lifting, and carrying. All of these physical requirements should be considered essential to the position.
