As an Accounting Technician, you will perform a variety of accounting functions including maintaining accounting records, coding revenues and expenditures, and performing reconciliations of Airports Authority financial transactions.

Accounting Technician

Serves in the Office of Finance in the Headquarters Office or the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project Office.

Performs regular and recurring data entry functions on a day-to-day basis related to disbursements, customer collections, payment applications, etc.; processes transactions; and maintains associated records and documents. Performs related functions.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

For Accounts Payable:

Receives and matches receipts with supplier invoices for approved Purchase Order (PO) purchases and processes invoices for payment.

Enters all non-PO invoices and payments into the accounts payable system and processes travel vouchers submitted by Airports Authority employees for payment.

Performs monthly reconciliations of travel advances to the general ledger comparing amounts with processed travel and reconciles the general ledger.

Prepares a weekly workload report and a monthly report of coding corrections for invoices over $5,000 and serves as a back-up for the distribution of paper check payments.

Maintains unique filing systems for each category of documents, coordinates the approval process for invoices with other Airports Authority offices, and matches approved invoices to the authorizing contract, purchase order, or receiving report.

Submits supplier invoices to the General Ledger group so accounting accruals for expenses, construction in progress, and assets can be booked on a monthly basis.

For Accounts Receivable:

Monitors customer accounts including applying cash payments to invoices and/or credit memos; performs collection activities.

Interacts with third-party collection contractor to provided information and coordinate any third-party collections.

Processes customer credit card payments from the Airports Authority's customers.

Produces monthly customer aging report(s) to management.

Coordinates within the Office of Finance, the Airports, Telecom, and the Office of General Counsel regarding write-offs.

Monitors and ensures timely compliance reporting regarding customer bankruptcies.

Provides customer service to customers regarding their accounts including providing copies of transactions.

Reconciles customer accounts regarding billings, payments, credits etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of progressively responsible experience in basic accounting or bookkeeping including using spreadsheets to track and monitor cash accounts and reconcile numeric discrepancies; and conducting accounting audits and analyses.

Knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles, practices, methods, and techniques to properly record, analyze, and reconcile assigned accounts with the general ledger.

Ability to perform general analyses of data and information (including identifying the accuracy and relevance of the information), with emphasis on intermediate mathematics and basic statistics.

Skill in using spreadsheets to track and monitor cash accounts and reconcile numeric discrepancies.

Ability to speak and write effectively.

Skill in using a computer and modern office suite software, with emphasis on accounting and financial systems/software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

An associate degree or higher in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.

Certification as a Certified Accounting Technician by the Institute of Accounting Technicians (IAT).

Knowledge of an enterprise financial system such as Workday.

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).

Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
