About the Role

The Sr. Manager, Logistics Procurement sits within Logistics and leads a team focused on supporting and optimizing operational activities for Primient's outbound supply chain. This role is responsible for contracting, price negotiation, and relationship management with logistics suppliers, excluding warehousing. The team is dedicated to driving cost-saving initiatives across all transportation modes and bulk stations while ensuring operational effectiveness through strategic sourcing and contract renewals. Additionally, the Procurement Manager supports Primient's Commercial team by providing accurate freight rates for customer quotes and oversees accounts payable functions to ensure timely, full payments in line with contractual agreements. By improving the efficiency, quality, and effectiveness of transportation suppliers, this role plays a critical part in supporting Primient's long-term success and commitment to excellence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Category Management: Develop and oversee the annual category management plan, driving strategic initiatives to achieve cost, quality, and efficiency goals throughout the year.

  • Supplier Management: Establish and conduct regular business reviews with suppliers aimed at driving improved performance and relationships.

  • Continuous Improvement and Metrics: Utilize KPI-based scorecards (e.g., on-time performance, tender acceptance, disruption measures) to identify and address underperforming lanes. Conduct mini-bids to improve incumbent performance.

  • Market Intelligence: Gather and leverage market-intelligence to benchmark current rates, anticipate pricing trends, and identify potential challenges. Share insights periodically to inform strategic planning and customer negotiations

  • Truck Transportation Procurement: Conduct annual Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to source cost-effective, operationally efficient solutions for all truck transportation lanes.

  • Rail Transportation Procurement: Negotiate annual rail contracts to establish a competitive route guide, leveraging flexible lanes to mitigate costs on captive lanes.

  • Rail Fleet Procurement: Manage lease expirations, negotiate renewals, and secure favorable terms for railcar fleets.

  • Freight Payables: Oversee invoice payment for Logistics suppliers, ensuring timely, accurate payments in line with contractual agreements and RFP outcomes.

  • Freight Quoting: Provide lane-specific cost forecasts to the Commercial team; incorporating market trends and anticipated price changes. Regularly compare forecasts to actual results to inform profitability adjustments and mini-bids.

  • System Maintenance: Maintain and update transportation rates in OTM and SAP annually, ensuring invoice accuracy and alignment with business requirements. Troubleshoot system issues and implement updates as needed.

Required and Preferred Education/Certification

  • Bachelors in Supply Chain, Business, STEM, or a related field (required) Masters in Supply Chain or Business (preferred)

Required and Preferred Work Experience

  • 5+ years in procurement (required)

  • 5+ years in logistics (required)

  • 5+ years of successful sourcing event management including complex RFP's involving varied scenarios for evaluation (preferred)

  • Proven track record in successful negotiations leading to cost-savings initiatives (preferred)

  • Experience in establishing and managing key performance indicators (KPIs)

Total RewardsThe annual pay range estimated for this position is $136,234.40 - $170,293.00 and is bonus eligible.

Please note that while this range reflects the full spectrum of compensation available for this role, individual compensation will be determined based on several factors including your experience, skills, and alignment with the role's responsibilities. During the interview process there will be an opportunity to discuss how your background fits into the pay range.
