POSITION SUMMARY

Seeking Assistant Fire Chief for Chennault International Airport and its surrounding areas.



RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Act as the senior officer representing the fire department at the station level and will have command of the fire personnel assigned to their shift
  • Act as primary Incident Commander at all emergencies until relieved by a higher-ranking officer
  • When relieved of Incident Command responsibilities the Captain will assume control of a sector of operations within the Incident Command System or a specific emergency operation.
  • Act as the fire department officer in charge of station operations
  • Provide management oversight of the station's shift operational responsibilities and ensure that all shift reports and training requirements are met
  • Ensure completion of required code compliance inspections, conduct daily shift training, complete station duties and ensure that all station operations are compliant with fire department safety requirements and operational guidelines
  • Conduct Runway Safety Inspections (day and night) as directed by Airport Operations, Fire Chief, or Assistant Chief
  • Assist in the management of the fire department operating budget, manage the disciplinary system on their shift, assure that their shift complies with all departmental rules of conduct and operations, perform station oversight audits and assist the AC with administration of the salary performance system
  • Will have authority to recommend that a person be hired, recommend pay increases and provide direct influence over the fire department's relationship with its customer
  • Will have the responsibility to insure that fire department operations are always in compliance with the most recent standards as issued by the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) and in compliance with all elements of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) as well as any other rules, regulations, standards, laws and requirements that may imposed on the operation of a fire department
  • At the request of the AC attend work-planning meetings with the customer. These meeting will be for the resolution of issues and problems, discussions on the customer feedback program, discussions on facility interactivity, fire department mission and operational improvements and any other topic the customer feels is of importance.
  • Meet with the personnel assigned to their shift to discuss the work plan for the day, special activities that will affect the station, road closures, fire protection system outages, training for the shift, additional work requirements that must be completed during the shift and any issues that may arise relative to operations at the station
  • Prepare drills and exercises for compliance to response guidelines, keep shift records and documents updated to insure compliance to national standards and customer requirements, perform spot testing of department personnel relative to their understanding of the department's rules and regulations and procedures and sit as a member of the fire departments promotion board if requested to do so
  • Be responsible for daily logbooks used at the station to insure they are complete and accurate, review daily time sheet and facility improvements plans
  • Be a direct report to the Assistant Fire Chief.
  • The Shift Captain is responsible for any other duties assigned to them by the Fire Chief or Assistant Fire Chief.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien
  • Have telephone and transportation as to be available for emergency situations
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Understand both verbal and written English with the ability to effectively communicate with people
  • No prior felony convictions and a clean criminal history
  • Complete pre-employment physical (DOT)
  • Complete annual SCBA fit testing
  • Background Investigation
  • High school education or GED equivalent
  • Hazardous Materials Operations
  • Firefighter II
  • Fire Officer I
  • ARFF
  • LABEMS Emergency Medical Technician
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 and ability to obtain 300, 400 within 1 year of appointment

WORKING CONDITIONS



  • May be required to lift and carry heavy weight.
  • Must be able to perform all tasks of a Firefighter/EMS professional.
  • Must be able to perform tasks while wearing an SCBA and full firefighting PPE.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday
