Job Purpose
The Materials Manager plays a vital role in the operational success of the organization by managing the flow of materials, optimizing inventory levels, and ensuring that production runs efficiently.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees the execution of manufacturing schedules and assures the application of all production, test, development, documentation and safety standards.
- Ensures controls, inventory levels and flow of materials are consistent with forecasts for manufacturing and customer service requirements.
- Coordinates with production operations, engineering, maintenance and other departments in the accomplishment of production goals.
- Participates in the quoting process to ensure all costs are captured and reflected in the sales inquiry.
- Implement, monitor and utilize Material Management systems that maintain the lowest possible inventory levels and balance inventory levels with customer service levels with a high degree of accuracy and meet ISO 9001 2015 standard.
- Ensure that physical distribution from Suppliers all the way through shipment of final product is performed in the most cost efficient manner.
- Monitor and ensure that sufficient production capacity is available for housing demand reflected in the MRP system.
- Establish accurate routings.
- Prepares reports and analysis of various cost control, production, labor, quality, facility usage and other reports.
- Ensures prompt and economical receipt of materials, supplies and parts. Ensures that plant standards and requirements are met.
- Performs those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including selection and development of employees, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, and organization goals and objectives.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Lead production planning and scheduling. Develop best practice material replenishment systems to ensure material availability to achieve production plan while meeting inventory reduction targets.
- Responsible for creating a high performance materials team. Establish team goals and action plans to achieve department objectives.
- Implement and manage cycle count systems to ensure accuracy of inventory transactions throughout the entire inventory value stream.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time, walk, bend and stoop.
Required Education, Qualifications & Skills:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Materials Management, Business Administration or a related field or equivalent experience is required.
- 5+ years of lead materials experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 5 or more years of experience in inventory or production control.
- In depth understanding of production scheduling, customer service, engineering and quality functions.
- ERP experience is required and Oracle experience is a plus.
- APICS certification a plus.
- Computer skills in a Windows environment utilizing programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel as well as material planning.
- Complete understanding of production planning, MRP and ERP systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and to effectively communicate with others.
- Detail oriented and ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to communicate with Production, Materials, Sales to meet customer demands
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- High sense of urgency and the ability to excel in a high pressure environment is required.
- Must have regular attendance at the plant to be engaged and successfully perform job functions.
- Must have the ability to work daily overtime and weekends as required.
