The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.
The Superintendent, Maintenance of Way-Metro has a managerial level of work and will oversee mechanical, civil, track and equipment related to the MTA MOW Metro Right of Way. Directly supervises assistant superintendent, maintenance supervisors and indirectly supervises repair and support personnel.
The Superintendent MOW-Metro ensures system-track compliance with all control agencies and the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP). The incumbent will also maintain inventory control, solicit estimates from various vendors, and meet with contractors and vendors to discuss projects, material acquisitions, and equipment rental. The incumbent works closely with Metro Operations (MOCC) to obtain track outages in predetermined areas requiring maintenance repair and will attend weekly work block/escort request meetings. The incumbent monitors track inspection reports and schedules all remedial track work.
Duties:
- Monitor the daily activities of personnel and equipment
- Assure operational practices and policies are carried out effectively
- Plan and coordinate subordinate work schedules and organizational structure
- Resolve labor relation issues and employer grievances
- Develop and implement long and short-range departmental goals and plans
- Direct and supervise special projects
- Maintain budget, parts and labor accountability
- Interface with procurement and industry suppliers to ensure parts and equipment availability
- Quality Assurance to improve policy and procedures
- Reviewing maintenance schedules
- Plan and oversee yearly manpower picks and vacation selections
- Interface with other departments

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six years of experience repairing, installing, inspecting and maintaining rail and rail related facilities. Two years of this experience must have involved the supervision of other rail maintenance employees.
Notes: 1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.

Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland.
