Step into a high-impact leadership role as an Assistant Controller at Bright Horizons, where your financial expertise drives clarity, strategy, and innovation. In this pivotal position, you'll ensure the financial results of a distinct business area are not only accurate and complete but delivered with precision and timeliness. You'll lead a talented team of Managers, Supervisors, and seasoned professionals-empowering them to excel while you independently navigate day-to-day operations and escalate key risks and opportunities to the Controller.

Beyond the numbers, you'll be a strategic force-shaping short- and mid-term goals and spearheading initiatives that elevate financial systems, streamline processes, and strengthen internal controls. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days onsite at our headquarters in Newton MA.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Close and Reporting & Accuracy

    • Responsible for worldwide accounting and SEC disclosures for leases under ASC 842. Also responsible for ensuring leases related liabilities are paid timely.

    • Oversee North America fixed asset accounting, including capital vs expense decisions.

    • Coordinate monthly and quarterly review processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis and corrections.

    • Monitor material areas of the trial balance, identifying and escalating risks and concerns.

    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal policies. Ability to understand and research accounting concepts, including application of new or changing accounting standards.

    • Maintain a strong internal control environment and support Sarbanes Oxley compliance.

    • Ad hoc analysis and projects as require

  • Team Leadership & Development

    • Manage and mentor a team of three professionals, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    • Align team objectives with strategic goals set by the Company and Accounting Group.

    • Set clear performance measurements and provide regular feedback and development opportunities.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Communicate regularly via Teams, email, and in-person with Operations and Finance Department personnel, clients and vendors, and internal and external auditors to provide accounting expertise and to answer questions and explain accounting practices.

    • Build trust and credibility with internal stakeholders by serving as a reliable point of contact for financial matters.

  • Process Improvement

    • Identify and implement enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

    • Leverage technology and automation to streamline reporting and analysis.

Minimum Qualification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting - Required

  • At least six plus (6+) years of progressive accounting experience including lease and fixed asset accounting.

  • 2+ years previous management experience required.

Additional Job Requirements
  • CPA preferred.

  • Proficient in Excel.

  • Experience and comfort working in ERPs. Workday experience preferred.

  • Costar experience is a plus.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work in deadline-oriented

    environment and prioritize effectively.

  • Detail oriented, self-starter, and highly motivated.

Salary/Hourly Rate and Other Compensation Disclosures:

The annual starting salary for this position is between $120,000 - $135,000 annually. The pay range listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates offering for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.

This position is also eligible for an annual 10% bonus and $15,000 in RSUs.
